money money money

I never, ever wanted to put ads on my blog or anything else (my clothes, my house, etc.) that I love. However, it has recently come to my attention that putting ads on this blog could generate some revenue, however measly, for me. And as I'm about to be "between jobs," as the vaguely defined phrase goes, I could use some dough for living expenses.

I want to wait and make sure this won't turn anyone away. I want to know if you'll still click on my posts--if not, screw the advertisements! I love the feeling of community and reassurance I get by writing this and don't want to lose any of my virtual support group.

What are your thoughts on this? If you yourself have a blog, I ask you this: do you have targeted ads posted? Is it worth it?

Thanks.

You should go for it. You shouldn't always have to do the things you love for free!

I don't think anyone will stop coming over just because there's a couple of ads on the side. You can even put same ads in RSS feeds (using FeedBurner). thedailyheadache is a good example of how to put some ads in without distracting too much attention from the content.

I'll keep reading as long as you keep writing :)

Advertisement won't bother me, as long as it doesn't pop up on my screen every 2 second :)

You provide great content, so I'm sure your readers won't mind!

It was a tough decision for me too. Fortunately, readers understand there's a time and financial commitment to blogging. Especially when your migraines affect your ability to work.

I don't make much money from ads, but it's enough to cover my costs. I'm not thrilled with the the items advertised, but don't think anyone thinks I endorse them.

In any case, your blog is terrific.

As long as you use adwords or a similar service that doesn't have ugly flickering/flashing banners, you'll be good. :) I don't advertise on my blog except for a little ad for my hosting company but that's because they rock.
