blog theft!

Dude, what the hell? (Sorry if I revert to Bill & Ted talk, but I'm quite miffed!)

I got a Google blogs alert for a blog entry called "the migraine girl: what's so pernicious about feeling good?" The document is mine, but has been rewritten to include random spaces, deliberate misspellings, and the like. I of course posted an entry called "what's so bad about feeling good" on November 30. I did NOT post it on some b.s. site called "Best Farma Online." I've been stolen from! Right?

I recall talk from other migraine bloggers awhile back about a guy stealing their content and posting it on his supposedly authorless site. (No author listed, harder to know who's behind it.) I can't remember what action they took or how they got him to remove the plagiarized material.

Help, bloggers!

For the moment, I'll be posting a comment on this person's web page immediately. I'm so annoyed and angry!

I don't think that's so much a person's blog as it is a robot's. Stealing content from other blogs helps it get a higher search ranking, look more legitimate, etc. Notice there's a link at the bottom of the "pernicious" post. That link adds value to the page it links to in the eyes of search engines.

I don't necessarily know what to do about this, but I think you'd be better off talking to Blogspot than trying to talk to this fake site. DO NOT give your email address to some Eastern Bloc douchebag. It won't go well.

Icky, creepy and weird! Did you figure out a way to take action?

I agree with the robot theory. Recently I heard someone on NPR discussing the ways in which sites try to get their link count up in order to increase their rankings on Googles searches and such.

I think I may have already given up my email address--luckily I have several, and this one is for this blog and ONLY this blog. (I never give my "real" one out except to friends--and even then I get spam!)

Okay, anyway. Thanks for the feedback. As yet I don't think any of my actions have been successful.

I had the same thing happen to me maybe 2 months ago. I think it was a bot site as well. I didn't really get any sort of resolution, so if you figure anything out, let us know.

Be well,
MJ

Wish whoever it was would come around and get a great big blob of green snot alert all over him or her! :p

Thievery of created materials hurts me in a way that's difficult for me to overemphasize.

Keep us posted about how you get this resolved, hon.

What a bunch of bull! I cannot believe that! Oh, wait, yes I can! When people have great and original ideas, people that are less clever or smart steal them. They are jerks! Even if it is a computer!!!

Hope you get it figured out!!!

I have had it happen to me also..one time a link from a blog post went to an article I had written and they lifted the article with no links or name attached..ouch!

The worst was a nit wit who took the first paragraph from my home page on my website and put it on his adsense junk site..he then put "powered by Wordpress" at the bottom which it wasnt..no way to get to him so I gave up..

Yeah, that looks like a "splog" - a spam blog. Wikipedia has info on it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_blog

It happens to me pretty frequently. I just ignore them.

My blog has moved!
